We can create multi-generational ancestral and descendant trees for you
Clients have commissioned bespoke research on their families, and as well as putting together a family tree for them if required, we specialise in using the Griffith’s Valuation maps of the mid-19th century, to pinpoint the exact field in a townland a client’s ancestors once called home. We also research local historical records and archives to provide context and colour.
We can go one step further in giving you a head start. We can code and create a file in the format required which can be uploaded to the likes of Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast etc, or to your own desktop family tree programme. The file is called a GEDCOM file and you can find out more about it here.
We'll Find Your Ancestral Home using Griffith's Valuations Maps
Griffith's Valuations from mid 19th Century
We can help you find your ancestral home using these maps. (The map on the right is the townland of Rosberry, Morristownbiller, Co. Kildare in 1854)
The Ordnance Survey Office of Ireland was established in 1824 to map the entire island of Ireland to facilitate updating land valuations for land taxation purposes. These maps, at a scale of 6 inches to one mile, were completed in 1846, making Ireland the first country in the world to be mapped in such detail.
The Primary Valuation, known as Griffith's Valuation, was published between 1846 and 1864. The detailed ordnance survey maps Commissioner Richard Griffith's and his team marked up survive to provide historic records of who lived where in mid 19th century Ireland.
Creeore's Approach to Townland Research
Finding Home
With the help of Griffith’s Valuations of the mid 19th century and Tithe Applotment Books of the early 19th century, we can help pinpoint the location of your Irish ancestral home of 200 years ago, even if the house is long gone.
Townland Community
Ireland’s 19th century townland communities were very close knit. We research everyone residing in a townland to reveal connections through marriage, friendship, emigration, or tragedy, noting the local economic, social and political upheavals along the way.
Population 1841-1901
Even though the detailed census records of the 19th century are lost, census summary reports from 1841 were prepared each decade and survive. Our website includes research on housing and residents by townland from 1841 to 1901.
Other ways to help you

We can undertake in-person research of original records and collections at national archive centres in Ireland, as well as utilising our subscriptions to multiple online depositaries and databases.
Townland Research
Our townland research includes biographical research on all households and residents, revealing connections through marriage, friendship, economic, social and political upheaval.
Student Collaboration
Teachers! We can help students understand and appreciate their local and social history through the lives of those who lived in their home town. Teach students research and story telling skills, then publish!
