The Electoral Division of Drehid consists of 4 townlands and 3,840 acres, the largest being the townland of Drehid itself with 2,161 acres, some of it bog. Drehid bog is also known as Timahoe bog. The area was sparsely populated with only 246 residents present on Census night, March 31st 1901, an average of 1 person for every 16 acres or one household for every 71 acres. Between 1841 and 1901 the population declined 69% from 794 residents to 246. The population in 2022 is still only 269 residents according to that census.Â
This area lies east of Carbury and Derrinturn and southwest of Johnstown Bridge on a Northwest/Southeast axis.Â

The population decrease of 69% between 1841 and 1901 is similar to surrounding areas but significantly higher than that endured in South Kildare. There were 127 houses in 1841 housing 794 residents, an average of 6.3 people per house. By 1901 only 54 houses were occupied, housing just 246 residents, an average of 4.6 per household.
During the famine decade, the population declined by 177 (22%) between 1841 and 1851, and by another 23% by 1861. The decline slowed for the next 20 years but accelerated again to 26% in the 1880’s. Â Â
