Griffith's Valuations from mid 19th Century

The Ordnance Survey Office of Ireland was established in 1824 to map the entire island of Ireland to facilitate updating land valuations for land taxation purposes. These maps, at a scale of 6 inches to one mile, were completed in 1846, making Ireland the first country in the world to be mapped in such detail.

The Primary Valuation, known as Griffith's Valuation, was published between 1846 and 1864. The detailed ordnance survey maps Commissioner Richard Griffith's and his team marked up survive to provide historic records of who lived where in mid 19th century Ireland.
